Eyelash Extensions
What are they?
Eyelash extensions are individual lashes that are glued to certain lashes of your own. An experienced lash stylist will locate your early growth eyelashes (baby lashes), your full grown eyelashes (teenager lashes), and your "old" (adult) eyelashes, then glue extensions only to your teenager and adult eyelashes.
Much like acrylic nails, lashes start with a "full set" or initial installation, then are kept up with "refills" where any stray lashes are removed and new lashes replace the natural lashes which fall out during the course of a month, with or without extensions.
Do they ruin your natural lashes?
If eyelash extensions are applied by an experienced and licensed technician, they do not ruin (break or damage) your natural lashes. However, you should never pull on your lashes, sleep on your face, or wash your new lashes before 24 hours has passed.
If you get your new lashes (full set) at Pixie on Main, you will receive detailed care instructions and a care kit.
How long do they last?
Depending on your habits, lashes can last 2-3 weeks. To maintain your lashes, avoid picking at your lashes, sleeping on your face, and salt water. Clean your face and eye area gently (whether you have eyelash extensions or not) to avoid damaging the delicate tissues around your eyes or your new and improved lashes.
Wash your lashes and extensions with the cleanser provided only every other day, and do not wear mascara, after all, you won't need to!
What's the difference between "classic" lashes and "volume" lashes?
Choosing among Classic, Mixed, Volume, or Extreme lash extensions is all about your personal style. Volume lashes are big and glamorous. Volume lashes take slightly longer to apply because more lashes will be applied during a volume application, leading to the fuller more glamorous look.
Classic lashes are more subtle. Your natural lashes will be longer and curlier than before the application, making your eyes appear bigger and more appealing.
Classic: natural looking (only better)
Mixed: a transition between Classic and Volume
Volume: fanned, full lashes
Extreme: extremely fanned and full lashes
How long does it take?
A full set of Volume lashes (initially) takes up to two hours twenty minutes to apply, while a full set of Classic lashes should not take more than an hour and a half. Either refill could take up to an hour and twenty minutes depending on how long it has been since your last fill.
Why are Lash Refills Necessary?
Let's think of eyelashes as having three stages: baby, teenager, and adult. When your eyelash extensions are installed, we will use your teenage and adult lashes only, which will give your baby lashes time to grow. During the time you wear your extensions, your adult lashes will shed, as they always do, whether or not you have extensions. Your teenage lashes will remain intact with the extensions attached, and your baby lashes will become teenagers. Because your adult lashes shed, you will eventually need a refill. Depending on your personal lash growth, extensions may last from 2 weeks to 3 weeks.
